Wellness Toolkits

Wellness doesn't come overnight. It's a process of implementing new habits into your life that make you feel grounded and present, a process that's not always easy for people. Thankfully, you don't have to suddenly know what to do on your own when life gets difficult and mindfulness doesn't come easily. GVSU has a variety of resources to help you navigate self-care, conscious communication, grief and loss, and self-compassion.

Toolkit Handouts

Self Care Toolkit

Feeling run down? Not sure where to start to take care of yourself? This toolkit provides examples of self-care in the forms of rejuvenating practices, routines, meditation, nutrition, and exercise suggestions, and examples to differentiate between self-care and things that actually cause more harm than good to the self. These self-care examples are just that-- examples. Self-care looks different for everyone, but by trying out one or two of these examples at a time, you may be better able to take care of yourself in a healthy way that improves your overall wellbeing. If you'd like more information, check out the full #Wellness Deck Self Care Toolkit.

THRIVE @ GVSU

If you're struggling to add new self-care practices into your routine, THRIVE @ GVSU may be able to help give you accountability and encouragement. Thrive @ GVSU is a voluntary, confidential and free three month wellness coaching program available to all medical benefit eligible faculty, staff, spouses and household members. Participants in the Thrive @ GVSU program partner with a health coach to work on wellness in a variety of ways that would be overall useful for improving self care.

Conscious Communication and Action Toolkit

Feel like you can't really communicate what you're feeling? This toolkit encourages practitioners to take responsibility for their experiences, feelings, and views, to develop strong listening skills, and to practice giving and receiving feedback that is empowering and helpful. Learn from examples on how to better communicate what you're feeling to inspire real action in your life. If you'd like more information, check out the full #Wellness Deck Conscious Communication and Action Toolkit.

Restorative Justice Circles and Proactive Circles

Human Resources and Inclusion and Equity have partnered to have several individuals throughout campus trained by the Dispute Resolution Center in Restorative Justice. Consult with these individuals to talk about how to implement restorative justice circles in your meetings or to help resolve conflict. Human Resources has begun to use proactive circles as a part of their monthly meetings; to learn more on how to do something similar, contact Natalie Trent.

This toolkit will discuss ways to give help and receive help when going through grief and loss. For more information, check out the full #Wellness Deck Grief and Loss Toolkit.

Normal Reactions to Abnormal Events

To help support employees and/or colleagues in times of distress, Encompass, your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), has compiled a packet entitled Normal Reactions to Abnormal Events.

Kindness Cards

If you are looking to give support to a coworker or colleague, Kindness Cards could be a way to share encouraging messages during difficult times. These downloadable cards can be printed out and shared, or filled out virtually and sent via email.
