Priority Health has made the decision to partner with Virgin Pulse to provide a larger coaching service team. What does this mean? The new partnership will allow for the same level of coaching quality and standards and more coaches. This provides the opportunity for increased capacity, breadth and depth of knowledge and demographics among the coaches to serve GVSU faculty, staff and partners. The Thrive @ GVSU program format and rewards are not changing. Members will continue to have the opportunity to connect with certified wellness coaches to set and reach wellness goals.
GVSU members have the opportunity to start the program with a Priority Health coach through January 2022 or to engage with a coach beginning in the new year with the Virgin Pulse coaching team. HR @ GV recognizes the relationships between current coaches and members are strong, though have confidence and can assure our members that the coaching team with Virgin Pulse will provide equal service and results.

What is Thrive @ GVSU?
Thrive @ GVSU is a voluntary, confidential and free three-month wellness coaching program available to all medical benefit eligible faculty, staff, spouses and household members. Participants in the Thrive @ GVSU program partner with a coach telephonically and through the Priority Health website.
- THRIVE @ GVSU allows for more easily accessible entry into working with a coach and also allows for additional ease of access to the online portal through Priority Health’s new online vendor.
- The program provides rewards for participation, emailed directly to you and are administered through Priority Health.
- THRIVE @ GVSU opens up the opportunity for everyone to engage by opting in during open enrollment and is open to all medical benefit eligible faculty/staff and members in the household member program. Dependents are not eligible.
- Enroll During Open Enrollment by opting in on the wellness tab. A coach will call faculty and staff who opted in before the end of the year to begin the program.
- Maximum rewards for the program are $100 to complete one round of coaching.
- Participants may complete multiple rounds of coaching Oct 1-Sept 30 at no cost but are only rewarded with a gift card for the first round of coaching.
Why is the university offering Thrive @ GVSU?
The University deeply values good health and well-being among its faculty and staff community. The goal of Thrive @ GVSU is to encourage sustainable healthy lifestyles that help to prevent chronic disease and other health conditions, and aligns with the university's healthy campus initiative.
Why should I participate in Thrive @ GVSU?
This program is focused on prevention; coaching provides educational materials, referrals, and personal support with proven results. The materials and follow-up programs are available to help you feel well and are designed to work in partnership with your personal health care provider. The information is tailored to each individual's personal needs. Participants are encouraged to share their coaching experience and topics with their health care provider.
How much does it cost?
Thrive @ GVSU is offered at no cost to medical benefit eligible faculty, staff, spouses and household members.
Am I required to participate in Thrive @ GVSU?
No, participation is voluntary.
How do I enroll?
To enroll, opt in during GVSU’s Benefits Open Enrollment in the fall. Coaches will begin calling members late November and early December. Or, enroll anytime after open enrollment by calling the number on the back of your Priority Health card. Participants must enroll by June 30th, 2021 to ensure time to complete the program.
How do I navigate the new Wellbeing Hub?
Just login to priorityhealth.com and access the Wellbeing hub via the “Wellness” tab in the top banner.
Who can participate?
Qualifying medical benefits-eligible University faculty, staff, spouses and household members can participate in Thrive @ GVSU. Dependents and spouses of faculty and staff who opt out of the medical program are not eligible for the program. Please note: If at any time your benefit status changes (leave of absence, appointment change, etc.), your eligibility to participate and receive the monetary reward may change. Spouses and household members not enrolled in GVSU medical benefits are not eligible for the program.
I am a medical benefits-eligible employee but I opted out of the Grand Valley medical plan. Can I still participate in Thrive @ GVSU?
If you are a qualifying medical benefits-eligible employee, you can participate in Thrive @ GVSU.
Anyone who does not have insurance with Priority Health, but is a GVSU employee is assigned a Priority Health contract number specifically for wellness and is a "wellness-only" member. You can call the Priority Health customer service team at 1-800-956-1954 to get a contract number which will allow you to set up your account on priorityhealth.com and access the wellness portal. Please note: If at any time your benefit status changes (leave of absence, appointment change, etc.), your eligibility to participate and receive the monetary reward may change.
The wellness only member experience will be very similar to the medical experience for Priority Health members. When setting up the Priority Health account for the first time, members have to attach their insurance (Member ID on card) to www.priorityhealth.com. Once this is done, members will see the “Go to Wellbeing Hub” link through the "Healthy Living" tab at the top of the page.
Can retirees participate in the program?
Can part-time faculty and staff participate in the program?

Can temporary faculty and staff participate in Thrive @ GVSU?

Spouses and household members enrolled in the GVSU medical plan may participate.
What is Wellness Coaching?
Trained coaches from Priority Health provide a confidential sounding board for a variety of physical, emotional, social, and other hurdles and help you reach goals. Coaching is conducted telephonically and/or online. Frequency of meetings is up to you and your coach during the coaching period.
Are the Priority Health coaches qualified and certified?
Yes. The Priority Health coaching staff holds credentials in dietetics, kinesiology, exercise science, health education and nursing. Coaches have received wellness and health coach training, and they’ve passed written and oral exams from a nationally recognized certification organization.
Is the coaching service confidential?
Yes. Participation in the wellness coaching offered through Priority Health is confidential and complies with HIPPA requirements. Grand Valley State University does not receive any personal information discussed in the coaching sessions. Content discussed is between you and your coach.
Are coaching services available in languages other than English?
Yes. Coaching service are available in Spanish, English and French.
Can I participate in multiple rounds of coaching?
Yes, however, only one round of coaching is reward-able.
Who is administering coaching for Thrive @ GVSU?
To protect your privacy, Grand Valley State University has contracted with Priority Health to administer coaching.
What happens with the information I provide?
Information collected from Thrive @ GVSU is treated as confidential. By agreeing to Priority Health's privacy statement, you are allowing Priority Health to view your health questionnaire information and advise you on health improvement strategies.
Will I be penalized if I don't participate?
No, participation is voluntary. However, the reward is only available to those who complete the program.
Will participation affect my insurance coverage or benefits?
No. Your results will not affect your insurance coverage or benefits nor will they be disclosed to your insurance company or your employer without your permission.
Will any of the information obtained through Thrive @ GVSU be shared with my manager?
No, the confidentiality of your personal health information is protected.
What are the Thrive @ GVSU program rewards for participation?
To qualify for the Thrive @ GVSU reward of a $100 gift card*, you must complete one session with a Priority Health wellness coach (up to three months) during the program year (October 1 – September 30). Gift card is cash value and administered by Priority Health.
*Rewards are taxable. Also note, if a spouse or household member earns a gift card for participating the employee will be taxed.
Why are we receiving a monetary reward for participating in Thrive @ GVSU?
Research has shown that financial incentives and a supportive workplace are effective ways to achieve higher levels of participation. Research has also shown that high participation in wellness programs achieved through the use of incentives adds value for the organization and its employees.
When and how will I receive my $100 gift card?
Upon completion of the coaching program, participants are eligible for the monetary reward. Review the instructions to redeem program gift card. Please note rewards are taxable.
What if I don't want to receive the monetary reward?
If you do not want to receive the reward please contact Priority Health at 1-800-446-5674.
GVSU spouses or household members on GVSU's medical plan can participate in Thrive @ GVSU and are eligible to receive rewards.
How do GVSU faculty and staff spouses and household members on GVSU's medical plan register?

Does the GVSU faculty or staff member have to participate in order for the spouse/household member to be eligible?
No. Spouses and household members can participate and earn rewards.
What are the rewards?
Spouses and household members will receive $100 for completing one round of the coaching program (up to 3 months). Maximum rewards for the program are $100 to complete one round of coaching. Participants may complete multiple rounds of coaching Oct 1-Sept 30 at no cost but are only rewarded with a gift card for the first round of coaching. Rewards are taxable. GVSU Wellness Manager will receive a list of participants who received a gift card from Priority Health and this file will be sent to the Payroll Office for tax purposes.
How will spouses and household members receive the reward?
Participants will redeem their gift card on the Wellbeing Hub found by logging into www.priorityhealth.com. Please note, if a dependent earns a gift card for participating, the employee will be taxed.
Both my spouse and I are employees of Grand Valley State University. How do rewards apply for us?
Thrive @ GVSU is open to all benefit eligible faculty, staff, spouses and household members. If you are enrolled or eligible and waived benefits, the program and rewards are still available to you. Faculty and staff who are both married and a faculty or staff member at GVSU are each eligible for a $100 gift card as a benefit eligible faculty or staff member.
If this applies to you, please notify Benefits and Wellness at 331-2220 to ensure your employee files have on record your spouse who is also an employee with the university. This is to ensure proper administration of rewards.
