Assistant Director, GVSU Women's Center

Brittany Dernberger is the Assistant Director of the GVSU Women’s Center. She completed her undergraduate degree at GVSU with a double major in Sociology and Women and Gender Studies and her Masters of Public Administration in Nonprofit Leadership. Brittany coordinates the Women’s Center’s service learning initiatives, including Activate and partnering with Women and Gender Studies on the South Africa Study Abroad trip. Brittany also directs the Women’s Leadership House, Student Food Pantry, oversees outreach and communication at the Women’s Center, and teaches in Women & Gender Studies. Brittany s active in the community, including serving on the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of West Michigan.

Sally Ross
Women's Leadership House Faculty Fellow
Associate Professor, Movement Science

Dr. Sally Ross is an Associate Professor in the Department of Movement Science and teaches in the sport leadership program.  She graduated from the University of Illinois with a PhD in Recreation, Sport and Tourism in 2005.  Prior to returning for her doctorate she worked in college athletics as an assistant athletic director overseeing student-athlete support services.  Her research interests include gender and sport, media representations of athletes, and social responsibility of sport entities. A former college volleyball player, she now tries hard to not be a “crazy sport parent” so she can enjoy watching her daughter play volleyball and her son play baseball and basketball.

Ayana Weekley
Women's Leadership House Faculty Fellow
Assistant Professor, Women & Gender Studies

Dr. Ayana Weekley is an Assistant Professor in the Women's and Gender Studies program. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities with a doctorate in Feminist Studies in 2010. Dr. Weekley's areas of scholarly interest include: HIV/AIDS, black feminist theory, black queer studies, and the intersections of race, gender and sexualities. She previously served on the board of the Grand Rapids Red Project whose mission is improving health, preventing HIV, and reducing risk in the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Daria Siler
2014-2015 WLH Peer Mentor

Daria Siler is a Peer Mentor in the Women’s Leadership House and is a senior majoring in Health Communications. She lived in the WLH last year and has been a part of the Women’s Center Women’s Issues Volunteer Corps (now called Activate) for two years. She is a part of the National Residence Hall Honorary organization and serves as the secretary on the executive board.

Casey Wisely
2014-2015 WLH Peer Mentor

Casey Wisely is a Peer Mentor in the Women’s Leadership House and is a junior majoring in Nursing and minoring in Women and Gender Studies. She hails from Saline, Michigan and lived in the Women's Leadership house for the first time last year. She is the Vice President of Communications for Triota, a Women and Gender Studies honorary society. She is also the Vice President of the student organizations Voices for Healthy Choices and the Grand Valley chapter of Amnesty International, as well as a member of the Student Nurses Association.
