Live Where You Learn.

Grand Valley State University is more than just a place to learn. It’s a place to find connections, opportunities, experience, and yourself. There’s no better way to do it all than by living on campus.

If you've lived on campus before, you understand that there is no better way to experience what it's like to be a Laker. Grand Valley's living centers offer all the features you want with on-campus conveniences and advantages, such as:

  • Unique social experiences.
  • Readily available academic resources and support.
  • Convenient dining options.
  • The relief of only paying one bill.

It is easy to see why students who live on campus and engage with their community get better grades and have a better chance to graduate than those who don't.

Traditional-style Living Centers

Traditional-style living centers are co-ed living centers for first-year students. These buildings provide the traditional, or "true" college experience, fostering a relationship-building sense of community. It’s common to see room doors propped open, hear music playing, residents chatting across the hall, and hanging out or studying in the lounges.

Although these buildings have community-style bathrooms, we offer private shower rooms that have a toilet, shower, and sink. These buildings are located near Kleiner Commons, the tutoring center, Fresh Food Co., Fuel, and Mackinac Hall, where most freshmen have classes.

Cluster-style Living Centers

Similar to traditional-style, cluster-style fosters a sense of community and residents quickly form relationships with each other. It’s common to see room doors propped open, hear music playing, residents chatting across the hall, and hanging out or studying in the lounges. This building has community-style bathrooms but offers lockers, private shower rooms, and fewer students per bathroom than traditional-style.

Suite-style Living Centers

Suite-style units consist of two students per room, and four students per suite with a shared bathroom, reserved for freshmen. Two residents share a double fully furnished room with a sink. Suite-style is a great way to form a sense of community and relationships with other residents. Residents are encouraged to choose suite-style if they want to be part of the Health, Wellness, and Movement House living/learning community These buildings are located near Kleiner Commons, the tutoring center, Fresh Food Co., Fuel, and Mackinac Hall, where most freshmen have classes.

One-Bedroom Apartment Style

One-bedroom apartment-style units are reserved for first-year students. Each unit comes fully furnished and features a private bathroom with a kitchenette. While residents still share their bedroom/living space, they get more privacy and flexibility than cluster or traditional-style. Residents still form a strong community and connections here. These buildings are located near Kleiner Commons, the tutoring center, Fresh Food Co., Fuel, and Mackinac Hall, where most freshmen have classes.

Apartment-style units give residents more privacy while still encouraging them to build community by connecting with their floormates, attend programing events, and other events on campus.

On-Campus Apartments

On-campus apartments are primarily for returning residents, transfer students, and graduate students. First-year residents are eligible to choose on-campus apartments if they are part of the Women in Science or Engineering living/learning communities. On-campus apartments provide residents with increased privacy and space, while still being close and convenient to classes and campus resources. They are located on South campus near The Blue Connection, Frederik Meijer Honors College, and the Kirkhof Center. Residents can enjoy the privacy of their own bedroom and additional living space, all while still enjoying the south campus community. Outside, there is a volleyball and basketball court, and a large courtyard where you will typically see students hanging out or playing outdoor games.
