Longtime GVSU and Honors faculty member Dr. Craig Benjamin is retiring at the end of the Winter 2021 semester. Craig joined the History department in 2003 and moved to the Honors College in 2012. In Honors, he has taught regularly in the Big History and East Asia first-year interdisciplinary sequences as well as the "Live Learn Lead" course. Over his relatively short academic career (he was a professional jazz musician in Australia for 25 years), he has authored or co-authored three books, edited or co-edited six books, and published dozens of articles, chapters, and encyclopedia entries. He has served in leadership positions for the World History Association, the International Big History Association, and the College Board World History group. Besides presenting at dozens of national and international conferences, Craig has written and delivered over 100 lectures in three Great Courses series for the Teaching Company and delighted cruise line patrons from around the world with lectures for Archeological Tours, the Caribbean Cruise Enrichment Series, the Mediterranean Cruise Enrichment Series, New York Times Journeys, and Scientific American Bright Horizons. He has also appeared on the Discovery Channel and the History Channel.
