Brooks College Student Reception and Alumni Panel Discussion

Join us for a night of networking and discussion. The evening will begin as a reception for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Students and alumni will have the opportunity to learn about how to get involved on campus and become informed on things to do after graduation (ex. Peace Corps, Teach for America, etc.). A panel discussion will follow the reception with our four Brooks College Outstanding Alumni at the table. This event is open to everyone and will be part of the Brooks Professional Series.

Homecoming 5K Run/Walk

Kelly Family Sports Center (No. 82 on Allendale Campus Map)

The Laker Homecoming 5K run/walk course is a flat, fast course that will show off the beauty of the Grand Valley Campus in the fall season. The course starts just outside of the Kelly Family Sports Center and heads out toward Laker Village before turning back north and entering the main part of campus. Runners will wind around the freshman living centers before heading back to the Kelly Family Sports Center. A post all-you-can-eat breakfast 5K run/walk breakfast is included in this price. Registration price will increase by $5 after October 13.

$25 adults / $15 GVSU Student / $20 Faculty, Staff, Alumni | Race proceeds benefit the GVSU Cross Country and Track & Field programs.

Live / Late Registration

Late registration will take place beginning October 14. Day of registration on Saturday Oct. 28, 2017 from 8:30-930 AM. Race is at 10 AM.

Tricks & Treats at University Libraries and the Spooky Technology Showcase

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Mary Idema Pew Library ( No. 94 on Allendale Campus Map) and other University Libraries locations

Experience tricks and treats at University Libraries on Saturday, October 28 as well as the week leading up to Homecoming! Vote for your favorite decorative pumpkin at multiple University Libraries locations, and if you’re lucky, you may get to see a book cart turned into a Treat Trolley! At the Mary Idema Pew Library, take a peek at Eugene — the skeleton who lives in our Automated Storage & Retrieval System. Stop by the Learning Alcove to try your hand at “tricky” GVSU trivia scavenged from the mysterious depths of the Archives.

The Technology Showcase will also be open throughout the week from 10am-9pm with special hours on Saturday, October 28 from 11am to 3pm. Homecoming attendees can drive the ghostly Doublerobotics Robot in full Halloween costume and experience spooky virtual reality and augmented reality experiences. The first 50 attendees on Saturday will receive a 3D printed skeleton!

Join us for the annual Alumni vs. Freshman race at the boathouse! Please arrive by 11 a.m. and we will begin racing around 11:30 a.m. — the race distance will be 500 meters. Then join us for Homecoming at our Alumni Tailgate. The cost is $20 per person and current rowers are welcome to join us, free of charge! Food and beverages will be provided.

Alumni Tailgate With Beer Garden

Outdoor Basketball Courts Along Laker Village Drive, Near Lubbers Stadium

Reunite with fellow Lakers and enjoy a casual, family-friendly tailgate that includes a tailgate meal, DJ, Beer Garden – featuring alumni owned breweries, children's activities, words from President Tom Haas, and a performance from the Grand Valley Marching Band, Cheer Team, and Dance Team. Children's activities are led by the Children's Enrichment Center and the Future Alumni Association. Enjoy Laker Treats – a black, blue, and white candy bar, GVSU giveaways, and yard games! Alcoholic beverages are an additional fee. Coolers are permitted. Glass bottles are not allowed.

New this year! When purchasing your tailgate ticket, you may choose a ticket in the General Alumni section, open to all alumni, family, and friends, or you may purchase a ticket in one of the unique tailgate sections for the African American Alumni Chapter/Black Faculty and Staff Association, HTM Alumni Chapter, or Lacrosse Alumni Chapter.

Children's Tent at the Alumni Tailgate

Outdoor Basketball Courts Along Laker Village Drive, Near Lubbers Stadium

The Children's Enrichment Center will have a tent at tailgate filled with crafts, games, and face-painting for your kids! Our bounce house will help the little ones get their energy out, and a special appearance from alumnus Kevin Kammeraad, '98, will keep all entertained with some of his puppet friends.

Bring your kids by the tent and they will get the chance to meet fellow future Lakers, participate in the celebration, and enjoy tailgate just as much as you will.

GVSU Recreation is welcoming back alumni & their friends or loved ones who were employees of Campus Recreation or alumni of the Men's Lacrosse, Men's Rugby, Women's Volleyball, Dance, or Wrestling Club teams to join us for a Homecoming Tailgate! Any alumni who competed for the previously mentioned club sports programs or who have ever worked with Club Sports, Fieldhouse, Climbing Wall, Fitness & Wellness, Group Exercise, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Adventures, Rec Center Operations, or the Pool Operations/Swim Instruction as a student staff, graduate assistant or full-time staff member are invited to connect with other former and current staff members of Campus Recreation. Feel free to bring a dish to pass, beverage to enjoy, share stories from your time at GVSU! All guests will be responsible for their own tailgating supplies, beverages, and snacks. Coolers are welcome. Glass bottles and pressurized containers are not allowed.
