April Duran
April Duran is an incoming senior at Grand Valley State University
majoring in Biomedical Sciences as a first generation student. April
is from Battle Creek, Michigan and was raised by two amazing and
hardworking immigrant parents. She graduated from Battle Creek Central
HS and was then accepted into the Pipeline Scholarship Program to
attend GVSU. At GVSU April has been involved in many organizations and
programs including Latino Student Union, Laker Familia, the Pipeline
scholarship program, TRIO program, and the Pre-PA club. She had many
laedership roles in some of these activties for example being a peer
mentor for Laker Familia and the pipeline program and being on the
e-board for Latino Student Union as the financial officer for two
years in a row. She hopes to pursue a career in the health field
aiming to be a physican assistant. This career choice was discovered
when she visted her family in Mexico and saw how low income families
lack medical attention and wishes to one day to travel to different
loactions and help those who seek medical attention at no cost. She is
very excited to be entering into her final year at GVSU and to be
participating in the Cook Leadership Academy and she can't wait to see
what this year has in store for her.
