Jenia Thompson - Political Science and Criminal Justice
Jenia Thompson is a fourth-year student studying Political Science
and Criminal Justice at Grand Valley State University. As a second
year Fellow Candidate in the Cook Leadership Academy (CLA), Jenia has
already learned how to engage others in addition to inspiring others
to cultivate their own leadership style. In addition to being a Fellow
Candidate, she is also a Lead Fellow at CLA. In this role, she helps
plan curriculum, facilitate discussions, as well as creating both
personal and professional relationships with her peers.
Because of her urgent desire to end mass incarceration, Jenia has
decided that pursuing a career as an Attorney is best suited for her.
In the meantime, Jenia has dedicated herself to becoming an active
leader in her community at Grand Valley. Jenia is involved in Grand
Valley’s Student Senate and the Vice Provost Student Advisory Board
all while being the ACLU of GVSU’s Advocacy Chair and a Resident
Assistant. In her spare time she is a member of the Menstrual Hygiene
Task Force which dedicates itself to providing free menstrual hygiene
products across Grand Valley’s campus. With the effort to stay
connected to her community, Jenia strives to volunteer at women’s
shelters in the Grand Rapids area. After graduation, Jenia intends to
pursue Law School in Fall 2021.
