Christa Fernando - Biomedical Sciences
Christa Fernando was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan by an
adventurous and loving family. Her diverse exposures and experiences
have helped form her outlook on effective leadership as a
fundamentally humble (and sometimes inconspicuous) role of service.
She is motivated to pursue a career in medicine by her compassion
toward those suffering physically and emotionally with a specific
interest in systemic disadvantages that affect maternal health such as
food access and environmental exposure. She has been awarded funding
through the Hauenstein Center's Independent Initiative program twice
to support her academic and professional development goals. She is
currently a senior at Grand Valley State University pursuing a
Biomedical Sciences major and Environmental Studies minor in the
Frederik Meijer Honors College. In the future, she hopes to obtain her
Master’s in Public Health, as well as medical practitioner license
that will allow her to serve diverse communities both in the US and abroad.
