Juan Paulo Palacios - Computer Engineering
JP Palacios is a sophomore currently attending Grand Valley State
University majoring in Computer Engineering. He is a student worker at
the Office of the Provost and School of Engineering. He graduated from
City High Middle School in 2018.
JP believes that change begins at the local level. During his time in
high school, he partook in various community service projects aimed at
improving his local neighborhood with the Hispanic Center of West
Michigan. As a passionate immigration rights advocate, he has fought
to bring a voice to disenfranchised groups. In 2018, JP traveled to
Washington D.C. to volunteer with immigration rights groups such as
FWD. US and Michigan United to rally support for the Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals Program. He was awarded the Youth Award from
the Committee to Honor Cesar E. Chavez for his advocacy. JP is excited
to take part in the Cook Leadership Academy and to network with the
leaders of the Grand Rapids community.
Despite his interests in immigration rights, JP also enjoys space
exploration. He is seeking to pursue a career in the pioneering of
space robotics. He enjoys the outdoors, spending time with family, and
is passionate about the arts. JP is excited to continue his studies at
Grand Valley State University and develop his leadership skills with
the Cook Leadership Academy.
