Description

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Open Minds Book Club!

For the September 2023 session of Open Minds, we will be reading and discussing How to Educate a Citizen: The Power of Shared Knowledge to Unify a Nation by E.D. Hirsch, Jr.

In this powerful manifesto, the bestselling author of Cultural Literacy addresses the failures of America’s early education system and its impact on our current national malaise, advocating for a shared knowledge curriculum students everywhere can be taught—an educational foundation that can help improve and strengthen America’s unity, identity, and democracy.

The discussion for this book will be held on Wednesday, September 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Richard M. DeVos Center’s Meijer Regency Room located on the GVSU Pew Campus.

Please order or request your copy of the book by September 6th to allow time for shipping and to enjoy the reading before the discussion.

Thanks to the generous support of our Hauenstein Center members, we are able to make copies of this book available for free to the first 20 individuals to register.
