Campus festival focuses on culture

Posted on March 21, 2013

The campus community is invited to the university’s ninth annual Intercultural Festival March 26, from 5-10 p.m. in the Grand River Room of the Kirkhof Center.

The festival, hosted by the Office of Student Life, will celebrate different cultures through activities involving art, film, food, theatre, sports and poetry, and dance and music performances by student organizations.

Aris Mantopoulos, cultural and campus programs graduate assistant in the Office of Student Life, said he hopes guests walk away having learned something new about a culture different from their own. “The festival is a way to recognize how we all belong to a culture and that we should celebrate it,” he said.

The festival dates back to the founding of Grand Valley in 1963 when it was known as Ethnic Festival.
