GVSU Graduate Students Selected for Assistantships Providing College Prep for Local High School Students

Godwin Heights Public Schools, Kelloggsville Public Schools, and Grand Valley State University will be working cooperatively with the Michigan College Access Network to continue the school-based college advising program that was piloted during the 2015-16 academic year at Godwin Heights High School. This program provides GVSU graduate students the opportunity to work directly with high school students to increase the number of students applying to and moving on to post-secondary education.
GVSU has selected two graduate students to work with local high schools and their counselors, teachers, and administrators to assist students, improve post-secondary enrollment rates, and build a college-going culture in these schools. Aanee Nichols will be working with Godwin Heights High School and is pursuing the School Counseling Master’s Degree. Te’Asia Martin will be working with Kelloggsville High School and is pursuing the College Student Affairs Leadership Master’s degree.
This is not only a great opportunity for these graduate students to build their professional skills, but it also gives these high school students the opportunity to navigate the post-secondary matriculation process with a recent college graduate. GVSU is excited to continue this collaboration with the Godwin Heights and Kelloggsville public schools. Congratulations to these graduate students on receiving their positions!
