NASA's Michigan Space Grant Consortium Fellowship Opportunities

NASA's Michigan Space Grants Consortium (MSGC) has just announced the next round of requests for proposals for Seed Grants and Graduate Student Fellowships for the 2022-2023 year funding cycle: https://www.mispacegrant.org/

Grand Valley State University is one of 11 academic affiliate Michigan Space Grants Consortium (MSGC) institutions in Michigan. MSGC provides funding for research and educational opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Aerospace, Space or Earth System Science. Other disciplines that impact science education and human exploration of Earth and Space are also eligible such as Arts, Communication, Psychology, Philosophy, Medicine, and Movement Science.

Graduate students may seek fellowships to carry out research projects under the mentorship of GVSU faculty. Fellowship awards for students are $4,000 and $5,000, respectively, and will be paid a stipend over a ten-week summer period.

For over two decades, GVSU faculty and students have built a solid record of obtaining MSGC fellowships and grants enriching the scholarship and education experience of our students and faculty. Last year, GVSU secured over $85,000 in fellowship and grant support from MSGC. This included fellowships for eight students, seed grants for two faculty members, and K-12 science training and outreach program grants for four others.

GVSU’s Affiliate Representative to MSGC, Dr. Biddanda, will guide interested applicants to orient their projects to meet NASA’s Strategic Goals effectively. He will also lead applicants to helpful resources in GVSU where they can get assistance securing match funds. Please contact Dr. Biddanda with any questions at [email protected] or (616) 331-3978. The deadline for proposals is Wednesday, November 10, 2021. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Biddanda no later than September 30, 2021.

Awards will be announced in February 2022, and successful fellows and grantees may utilize the funds during May 2022-April 2023 period.
