Biology Graduate Student Presents at International Conference

Jacob Harris, a biology graduate student, presented at the 19th ITEX Meeting in Stirling, Scotland.  He presented his work further investigating the tundra plant community changes at research sites in Utqiagvik and Atqasuk, Alaska. His goal was to identify if plant species are being replaced at the research sites as time and climate progression is experienced. “If anything was to be gained from my presentation,” Jacob said, “I would hope it would be that the non-vascular plant community is being displaced gradually in our research sites.” He noted that this has occurred on other research sites across the Arctic as well.

Jacob felt that the conference was good practice for the rest of his career giving him experience pitching ideas and presenting information to a very well informed audience. He also appreciated the support from GVSU staff, “I would say that Dr. Robert Hollister [his advisor] has greatly contributed to my success. I would also thank Dr. Neil MacDonald for helping prep me for this presentation.”

Congratulations to Jacob!
