2019 MAGS DISTINGUISHED MASTER'S THESIS AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

The Midwest Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Distinguished Master’s Thesis Awards are to recognize and reward distinguished scholarship and research at the master’s level. The MAGS GVSU Thesis Review Committee has recently selected both Joshua Usoro and ReChard Peel as nominees for their master's theses.
Joshua Usoro received his Master of Science in Engineering degree with a Biomedical Engineering emphasis in 2017. He is currently working toward his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas, while also working at the Neuronal Networks and Interfaces Lab exploring the translation of neural activity into movement. Usoro’s thesis, Information Theoretic EEG Analysis of Children with Severe Disabilities in Response to Power Mobility Training: A Pilot Study, is the nominee for the Engineering category.
ReChard Peel received his Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Higher Education in 2017 as well. He is currently a Program Coordinator in the Office of Inclusion Initiatives and Cultural Competence at Vanderbilt University working on Cultural Competence training and Intergroup dialogues for students. Peel’s thesis, Racial Ideology and Black Students’ Leadership Experiences at a Historically White Institution, is the nominee for the Social Sciences category.
The review committee deemed both of these theses to be the strongest representation of GVSU's graduate student thesis work from the past two academic year. The Graduate School will submit a copy of both of their theses for consideration by a committee from MAGS and a winner will be announced in early 2019. Congratulations to both ReChard and Joshua!
