MPH Students Visit Washington D.C.

Eight graduate students and two faculty members from the Master of Public Health graduate program spent their spring break in Washington D.C., meeting with national health organizations and participating in a collaborative service learning project with George Washington University’s ISCOPES program. Graduate program director, Dr. Ranelle Brew and faculty member Karen Niemchick led the six day trip which allowed students to network and learn more about public health efforts occurring in our nation’s capital.  Students toured the National Institutes of Health and Capitol Hill and met with members of the Society of Public Health Education, the National Council for Behavioral Health, the American Public Health Association, and the National Rural Health Association. In partnership with George Washington University, students hosted a health fair at Emery House, a work-bed program that assists men in sustaining employment and moving into permanent housing. A special thank you to the Graduate Student Association for providing a portion of the funding that allowed public health students to take part in this educational trip.
