ENG 624: Medieval Epic and Romance

Kathleen Blumreich

In this course, students will read and discuss texts ranging from The Heliand to Malory's Morte d'Arthur. Our aim will be two-fold: first, to explore the characteristic features of each genre; and second, to gain a better understanding of why romance came to displace epic as the preferred literary form during the Middle Ages.
