Organization: Macatawa Area Coordinating Council (MACC)
Location: 301 Douglas Avenue, Holland, MI 49424
Duration: May 5th to October 3rd, 2025
Pay Range: $15-19 per hour, up to 40 hours per week
About the MACC:
The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council (MACC)
is a regional organization dedicated to transportation
planning
and coordination in the Holland/Zeeland area. We work collaboratively
with local governments,
transportation agencies, and community
stakeholders to develop and implement transportation
solutions
that enhance mobility, sustainability, and quality of life for residents.
Position Overview:
MACC is seeking a dynamic and motivated
Summer Intern to serve as an Environmental Planner for the
summer
of 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity for a
college-enrolled individual to gain
hands-on experience in
sustainability initiatives, transportation planning, and
environmental
stewardship. The selected intern will also have the
opportunity to collaborate with the ODC Network,
enhancing their
experience with outdoor education and conservation efforts.
An average week will consist of three days at MACC and two days
at the ODC, providing a well-rounded
experience in both
transportation planning and environmental engagement. Work hours will
be flexible,
particularly as the college semester resumes in late
summer, allowing for a balance between academic
commitments and
internship responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Green Commute Week Coordination:
Plan, coordinate, and
execute all aspects of Green Commute Week 2025 (September 7th – 13th),
including
promotional activities, potential educational workshops,
commuter challenges, and special events.
Develop marketing
materials, social media campaigns, and outreach strategies to promote
Green
Commute Week and encourage participation from the community.
Collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and
transportation partners to secure sponsorships,
prizes, and
support for Green Commute Week activities.
Collect and analyze data on participant engagement, mode shift,
and environmental impact to evaluate
the success of Green Commute
Week initiatives.
Prepare post-event reports, presentations, and recommendations
for future Green Commute Week
events based on feedback and lessons learned.
Intersection Analysis & Data Collection:
Participating in
non-motorized traffic counts and conducting intersection analysis to
gauge usage
patterns and identify safety concerns.
Gathering and analyzing data on the condition, accessibility, and
safety of non-motorized facilities.
Assisting in the formulation
of strategic recommendations for infrastructure improvements to
enhance
usability and safety.
Outdoor Discovery Center - Support:
Support environmental
initiatives at the ODC Network by assisting ODC staff and interns with
water
quality field work, environmental education programs,
habitat restoration projects, and outdoor events.
This additional
responsibility allows the intern to gain firsthand experience in
environmental stewardship
and outdoor education while contributing
to the mission and goals of the Outdoor Discovery Center.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required;
must be currently enrolled in a college or university
program.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple
tasks and deadlines independently.
Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with
diverse
stakeholders and community members.
Passion for sustainability, environmental stewardship, and
promoting alternative transportation options.
Previous experience
in event planning, marketing, or community outreach is preferred but
not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and social media platforms.
Must be able to work on
their feet for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
Valid
Driver’s License
Must have access to a vehicle
Must be able to ride an electric bike
