Summer FLCs

Quality Education Initiative

Summer 2019

Were you thinking about spending some time on your teaching this summer? Would you like to have curated content, access to evidence-based practices, expert guidance, structure, and some company?

The Pew FTLC is pleased to offer this new Faculty Learning Community program, bringing together small cohorts of new and experienced faculty for an in-depth scholarly teaching endeavor. Rather than learning in isolation, participating faculty will engage online with others, guided by digital programming provided by a new Magna Publications Professional Development offering. Participants will be expected to view content, engage in online discussions and assessments, and attend a virtual check-in conversation once during the course. The program runs for 8 weeks and provides approximately 15 hours of content. The videos and resources will remain available for one year after completion of the program.

The New Faculty program contains 20 modules around these broad topics:

  • Course design
  • Classroom climate
  • Active and engaged students
  • Higher order thinking
  • Assessment and grading

The Experienced Faculty program contains 22 modules:

  • All of the above topics will be covered in greater depth
  • Continuous improvement

The Pew FTLC will cover registration and provide lunch for two in-seat meetings. Participants who complete the program and submit a final report will be eligible for a $100 professional development allocation to be used to support the implementation of new teaching approaches inspired by the program. Faculty will also be provided opportunities to further develop scholarship of teaching and learning projects related to the program.
