Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Emily Bemben is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry and Mental Health, and is trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health concerns across the lifespan. Emily began working at the GVSU Family Health Center in the spring of 2021, and prior to that she practiced in Minneapolis, MN. Trained first as a counselor and nurse, Emily sees patients holistically, considers multiple sources of symptoms, and always advocates for her clients. She has experience working in numerous settings with people who have experienced trauma, and enjoys working with children, teens, and adults in diverse community-based settings.

Emily completed her B.A. in Psychology at Occidental College in Los Angeles before earning her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas in Austin. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and the International Association of Forensic Nurses.

Emily feels that we live in a world that does not always make it easy to prioritize our mental health and wellness. She aims to simplify that journey, offering guidance while keeping her patients in the driver’s seat. Emily is here to offer expertise and experience while shaping a unique solution for each client. She hopes that after meeting with her, clients will feel listened to and have a plan to start feeling lighter and happier in their day-to-day life.

In her free time, Emily enjoys making soup in her Instant Pot, running, taking her two dogs to the park, and watching Pixar movies.
