Set off on an unforgettable adventure with Recreation & Wellness on our Outdoor Orientation Programs (OOPs), featuring an exhilarating whitewater rafting experience on the New River in West Virginia! This program offers incoming students an opportunity to forge meaningful connections through outdoor activities, equipping first-year students with essential skills to successfully navigate the college experience. 

Benefits of this Program include: 

  1. Community: This shared experience fosters lasting friendships and a supportive community that will serve students well throughout their college journey. 

  1. Empowered Learning: Through play and reflection, students will draw parallels with the outdoors that will help them succeed when life becomes turbulent off the river. 

  1. Early Move-In: OOPs programs start just before regular move-in/ orientation activities, allowing you to skip the crowds yet return in time to meet your roommate and attend other important campus events. 

Whitewater activities are facilitated through ACE Adventure Resort in West Virginia. All other OOPs activities are lead by a combination of our well-trained student staff and experienced professional staff.

Pertinent Dates: 

  • Trip Dates:  Saturday, August 16 - Wednesday, August 20, 2025
  • Registration Deadline: Thursday, July 31st

Cost: $475

Adventure Activities: Whitewater rafting (class I-IV+), Hiking (~4-8 miles on moderately hilly terrain)

Provided by Outdoor Adventures: 

Early Move-in, Transportation, Lodging, Meals at activity sites, Trip leadership, Pertinent group gear, Whitewater rafting, Lifelong memories 

Provided by each participant: 

Trip-appropriate clothing (packing list provided), Meals on the road (to/ from WV), Readiness to be active outdoors
