In Synge’s classic text, young farmer Christy Mahon learns that “there's a great gap between a gallous story and a dirty deed.” Set in an Irish pub in the wilds of West Ireland in the early 1900s, The Playboy of the Western World explores the curious dynamic between the truth and a good story. While the play originally opened to riots and boycotts, it now stands as Synge’s most produced work.
