Every American has K-12 education experiences and will continue to have experiences through their roles in the workplace, as parents, as family members, and as friends. This "Reflections and Predictions" event contributes to the larger conversation occurring today in the United States regarding these K-12 education experiences and raises additional questions regarding the role of teacher education in that conversation. Recent articles in the New York Times illustrate the broad significance of this conversation. In quoting Elizabeth Green, author of “Building a Better Teacher,” the Times reported, “Across all school subjects, teachers receive a pale imitation of the preparation, support and tools they need. And across all subjects, the neglect shows in students’ work. In addition to misunderstanding math, American students also, on average, write weakly, read poorly, think unscientifically and grasp history only superficially.”
