Last Lecture 2013 - LIB100/201 Approved!

Date and Time

Thursday, November 21, 2013
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

  • Mary Idema Pew Library » Multipurpose Room

On Thursday, November 21, Student Senate will be hosting one of our favorite annual events, Last Lecture. Last Lecture is based on the book by Randy Pausch called "The Last Lecture." He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University who was diagonsed with pancreatic cancer in 2007, and decided to give a final speech and write a book based on life and the lessons he learned in which make life so valuable. GVSU's Student Senate has taken this idea, by designating one professor every year to give a lecture as if it were their final lecture. This year, Professor Kathleen Underwood, will be our Last Lecture speaker. The event is FREE, LIB 100/201 approved, and there will be food!

A little background on Dr. Underwood: she has been a driving force behind the Women and Gender Studies Department since it began. She was also one of the main developers of the LGBTQ Studies minor offered at Grand Valley. Her leadership has also helped develop the WGS Program's study abroad trip to South Africa and the Women’s Leadership House. She has taken an active role in Student Life by advising and supporting the work of Triota, the WGS honors society. She is an associate professor of history and was the chair of the Martin Luther King Day Planning Committee for many years. A lot of students are really excited to come to the lecture, and word is that she's a very engaging speaker, so you should come too.

As a reminder, this event is free, catered, and LIB 100/201 approved. I will take place on Thursday, November 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room of the Mary Idema Pew Library, which is on the atrium level.
