The third annual GVSU String Leadership Camp will feature four recitals this week. Faculty recitals will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 13 and 14 at 1:00 PM in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall. Performing on Monday’s recital will be GVSU professors Sookkyung Cho, piano and Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cello. They will be joined by Elayna Duitman, violinist in the Cleveland Orchestra. On Tuesday the recital will feature members of the string faculty of GVSU, professors, Megan Crawford, Paul Swantek, Pablo Mahave-Veglia, and Michael Hovnanian and they will be joined by James Crawford, concertmaster of the Grand Rapids Symphony as well as his brother, Anthony, who is a professional violinist in California.
This year’s camp includes 39 students, including for the first time, 6 piano students. Each student will play as a member of a trio, quartet, or quintet on one of two recitals on Wednesday, Aug 15. The first recital, beginning at 6:30, will be held in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall and will feature six piano trios, quartets and quintets. The second recital at 7:30 in Cook-DeWitt Center will include four string trios and quartets as well the String Leadership Orchestra conducted by Camp Director, Henry Duitman.
All recitals are free and open to the general public.
