Growing Exceptional Events

Events can provide many opportunities for your organization, fundraising, donor development and great PR. They can also be taxing on your staff and stretch your resources. This seminar will teach you practical steps to help you organize your events efficiently, use your organizations resources well and get the most out of your events.

Join us for an information packed session that will provide you with the tools you need to grow exceptional events.

The learning objectives for this course are:

  • Choosing the right event for your organization
  • Developing the plan
  • Building the committee
  • Sponsor development
  • Maximizing your event impact
  • Managing event volunteers
  • Getting the most out of the day after for organizational capacity building

This seminar will be facilitated by Tamela Spicer, who has worked in the non-profit sector for nearly 20 years.  She has worked with a variety of non-profit organizations managing events, overseeing fund development and working as Director for the Western Michigan Region of The Arthritis Foundation as well as Regional Director of Development for The Salvation Army Western Michigan/Northern Indiana Division.  Ms. Spicer has worked as a consultant since 1988, focusing on capacity building for small to mid-size nonprofits.  She specializes in strategic planning and board development, but has also assisted various organizations with event management, organizational assessment, executive coaching and direct mail management.

An accomplished speaker, Ms. Spicer has presented at the Michigan Nonprofit Association Volunteerism Super-Conference and several years at the Blackbaud International Conference on Philanthropy, in Charleston, South Carolina and San Francisco, California.  She was also an online instructor for Blackbaud’s Knowledge Network, teaching classes in event management and volunteer development.

A graduate of Aquinas College, Ms. Spicer holds Bachelor Degrees in both Business Administration and Religious Studies.  She has continued her studies through the Indiana School of Fundraising and is a graduate of the International School of Ministry and is working on a Master of Arts in Communication at Spring Arbor University.
