Get Informed, Grow Passion, & Give Back
Date and TimeMonday, November 26, 2018
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- North Living Center C
Get Informed, Grow Passion, and Give Thanks exemplifies the need to bring education revolving veteran affairs and what we can do as a community to better assist them in the transition from service and support the resources for them or discuss the lack thereof. The Grand Valley Veterans Affairs has coordinated a few volunteer veterans to spend time with the North C, Hills, and Frey Living Center Residents to engage and invoke an outlook on present day treatment of veterans, on a personal level. The program provides residents the opportunity to discover and ask questions whilst creating a personal yet comfortable environment for both residents and veterans. Through the stories and discussion from the veterans, residents will be encouraged to write letters of gratitude to those currently serving or those whom have served as a message of thanks for the time given, especially with the time away from family and friends during the holiday season. Students will be demonstrated the statistics of veterans and those serving, especially revolving mental health and suicidal rates, and an open dialogue will be held about potential opportunities that the students could assist in advocating for durable treatment and care for those who served for our rights and freedom. Upon the completion of the program, students will be able to analyze current systems and care for veterans, and awaken the mistreatment and struggles one who serves deals with and some sadly succumb to.
