German-Turkish director Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay

From Monday (September 16) to Wednesday (September 18) German-Turkish director Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay will be in Grand Rapids. His film, Oray (2019), won the award for the Best First Feature Film at the Berlinale this past February. The film explores issues of love and faith in a Muslim community in Germany.
Mehmet will be in Allendale on Monday and on Wednesday to meet with Grand Valley students. On Tuesday evening, there will be a screening of his film and a panel discussion at Aquinas College.

3 p.m.: The Department of Modern Languages and Middle Eastern Studies present German-Turkish Director Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay. Mehmet discusses his experiences growing up in Germany and his award-winning film Oray (2019). 150 Niemeyer (Multipurpose Room)
