Description
Eyes Wide Open provides support for survivors of sexual violence along with education and prevention for the larger campus community! Eyes Wide Open gives presentations to anybody who would like one, including but not limited to living centers, student organizations, classrooms, & Greek life. When the opportunity arises, we give off-campus presentations. We also put on events such as Take Back the Night, Clothesline Project, Rock Against Rape, and Sexual Assault Awareness Week! 1 IN 5 WOMEN AND 1 IN 15 MEN AT GVSU WILL BE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AT SOME POINT BEFORE THEY GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE.(this stat was taken from an anonymous survey taken at GV in 2011). Nationally, it is 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men who will be assaulted at some point in their lifetime (rainn.org). Therefore, the primary goals of EWO are to teach students about the resources available for survivors of sexual assault, to create a campus culture that prevents assaults from happening, and to provide campus-wide programming to students, faculty, and staff. EWO was recognized for 3 awards in 2011!
