If you want to vote for a third party in the U.S., you are often told you are wasting your vote. How is that the case and why? In this talk, Dr. Tafel will show how first-past-the-post legislative election systems tend to produce two-party systems, making it difficult for third party candidates to get elected. Based on comparative research on election systems and parties, she will also consider possibilities for change.
