SCIENCE ON TAP

Cretaceous Coastlines: How Fluctuating Sea-Levels Can Impact Coastal Dinosaur Communities

Speaker: Cory Redman, Science Curator, Grand Rapids Public Museum

Location: SpeakEZ Lounge | 600 Monroe Ave. Grand Rapids NW 49503

Date: Thursday, September 12

Time: 8PM

Event Description:

During the Late Cretaceous (65-100 million years ago) a shallow sea split North America in half, connecting the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. This seaway expanded and shrank numerous times during its existence, resulting in the flooding or exposure of large areas of North America. Dr. Cory Redman will present research that examines how changes in sea level affected the diversity and distribution of fossil vertebrates that lived in the coastal habitats found along the seaway.
