In 1968, the Young Lord Organization (YLO) was founded in Lincoln Park, Chicago. "Remembering the Young Lords: A Look Back after 50 Years" will discuss how they transitioned from a street gang and social club into an organization with the purpose of "uniting people in the community for the improvement of the neighborhood".
Dr. Jacqueline Lazú, is Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of Modern Languages as well as founder and interim chair of the Criminology Program at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. Prof. Lazú's publications and teaching focus on Latino and Caribbean literature and culture, social movements, political protesters, crimes of consciousness, aesthetics and political philosophy.
