Basic Bike Maintenance

Friday, March 19, 2021
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Allendale Campus
Faculty, Staff, Students

Warming temperatures and melting snow means one significant thing. It's almost bike riding season! We probably don't have to tell you but bikes are much more fun to ride when they're working properly and we believe that everyone should know how to do a few basic tasks. Not only can this knowledge keep you out of a tight spot you when you're out riding around, it can prevent costly shop bills.

While the total event time is scheduled as 2 hours, we have structured the workshop as a 30 minute lesson, offered 4 times. Due to the short duration, we will focus on the most important things first and will branch out from there as time allows. We are happy to do our best to address any specific basic maintenance issues as time allows. Topics may include:

  1. Changing a flat
  2. Brakes: inspecting, adjusting, & replacing rim-type brakes (as opposed to disc brakes)
  3. Shifters: basic adjustments
  4. Other general tune-up topics as needed/ time allows

The Bike Shop will provide necessary tools and also has practice bikes/ parts available as-needed.
