An Emerging Disability on Campus: What Faculty & Advisors Need to Know about Asperger's Syndrome
Date and TimeThursday, September 20, 2012
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
The Academic Advising Professional Development Committee presents the second year of our university-wide Academic Advising Fora. The first event is scheduled for September 20th 3-5pm in Grand River Room, Allendale. During this 2 hour event we will focus on an emerging disability on campus, Aspergers Syndrome. We will have Psychology faculty member, Dr. Jamie Owen-DeSchryver and Kathleen VanderVeen, Director of Disability Support Resources, for a discussion regarding the characteristics of the disability, and strategies to assist students who self-identify in your class or office. This session will be both interactive and informational. The committee is very excited about this forum and we hope that you will attend if your schedule allows. This is an important university-wide topic that both staff and faculty can learn from to be better informed and help our students. Interested participants should reserve a seat at www.gvsu.edu/seminars under the Academic Advising Professional Development Committee listing.
