A One Week Virtual Exploration Sparking Interest in Renewable Energy

Energizing Our World virtual camp summer camp exploration for middle school students is designed to spark interest in renewable energy sources and careers. Students will participate in a large group introduction followed by breakout sessions facilitated by GVSU faculty, staff and students providing them with hands-on activities to interact with a variety of renewable energy sources including: solar, wind, and hydro power energy. Students will be provided with kits to complete these activities. An introduction to careers in renewable energy will also be a part of the camp. 

*This is a nonresidential camp.

Cost: Free

Participants must meet the following criteria: 

  • be between the ages of 11 and 15,
  • currently enrolled in the 6th or 7th grade, and
  • entering 7th or 8th grade in Fall 2021. Priority will be given to students from underrepresented populations and minority demographics in STEM Fields.

 

 

Supervision/Safety

Students will be paired with a counselor to help further learning and all sessions will be held virtually on a secure online platform such as BlackBoard Collaborate!

Technology and Hands-On Kits

For the virtual camp, technology may be available for students based on grant funding for those who do not have adequate technology. 

Hands-on kits will be provided to all participants. Kits will be mailed to students and are designed to spark interest and learning!
