Education Faculty Promoted to VP Roles

Two Education faculty members, Erica Hamilton and Sean Lancaster, were promoted this summer to serve in the Office of the Provost as Assistant Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs. Both Hamilton and Lancaster were part of the Education Program’s Literacy, Educational Foundations, and Technology Department.

Fatma Mili, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs, announced appointments within the Office of the Provost.

"I am highly impressed by the level of enthusiasm and the breadth and depth of leadership in GVSU’s ranks," Mili said. "The members of the Provost Cabinet and I look forward to working with the new appointees as we together execute on the Reach Higher 2025 strategic plan."

Erica Hamilton, Ph.D.,  transitions from serving as an Associate Professor of Literacy Studies and Reading. Her new role in the Office of the Provost will focus on curriculum and program review work. Hamilton has served as Provost Fellow for Curriculum Innovation and has worked at Grand Valley for nine years. With nearly 25 years of experience in education, Hamilton is the recipient of multiple awards recognizing her teaching, service, and scholarly excellence. Her scholarship focuses on curriculum design, development, assessment, student learning outcomes, and teaching excellence.

Sean Lancaster, Ph.D., is a Professor of Educational Technology. His new role will focus on assessment and accreditation work. Lancaster has been at Grand Valley for 22 years and has held several leadership positions, including department chair. He is one of the founders of the Michigan Teacher Education Network.
