DIY Grammar Walls- Create & Innovate

Date and Time

Thursday, January 18, 2018 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Description

Educators, parents, and the general public often complain that students can't write well, and most research and test scores support this notion. As a result, frustrated college professors blame high school teachers who in turn blame middle school teachers for this problem. As a former middle school and high school teacher, GVSU Senior Affiliate Professor Teresa Gibbons will discuss her 23 years' experience teaching writing. In this workshop, Gibbons will explore possible causes of poor student performance in writing and ideas to improve writing at all levels. Workshop participants will receive grade-specific strategies to improve student writing. This workshop provides numerous resources and practical suggestions beneficial to 6 - 12 grade teachers. Participants will be asked to evaluate programs and strategies already in place at their schools, and then to make an action plan for adding to and improving upon those.
