Support and Scholarships

The Center for Women and Gender Equity wants to support students in their educational pursuits. Below are two scholarships that may be of interest to students. If you do not qualify for either scholarship, the Center for Women and Gender Equity works with the Office of Financial Aid to connect students to resources.

Financial Support & Scholarships

The GVSU Center for Women and Gender Equity Non-traditional Student Scholarship Committee will select one or more recipients for this scholarship. The scholarship is designed to benefit non-traditional students with unique pathways to education including child/family responsibilities, re-entry to college after some significant time away, or exceptional life circumstances due to employment or other challenges.

The award, a stipend equivalent to three credit hours of in-state tuition, must be used at GVSU by the end of the semester following the award.

The annual application deadline is July 1 each year . To apply, access the online application. Prior to applying, please be sure that you have filled out your FAFSA application at

Our staff are trained to assist individual students with locating resources.

If you would like to learn about other scholarship opportunities relevant to GVSU students, you may do so by accessing the Financial Aid website.

Each year, at the Women's Commission Celebration of Women Awards, the Center for Women and Gender Equity recognizes Outstanding Students. For more information on the event and all of the awards given out, check out the Women's Commission website.

The Outstanding Student Award celebrates the diversity of accomplishments of students at GVSU and recognizes various pathways to achievement.

Each year, we seek nominations for the Outstanding Student Award.

1. Please submit a nomination letter outlining the student’s contribution to gender justice work and their contributions to Grand Valley State University and/or the community specifically.

2. All nominations should be returned no later than February 11 at 5 pm.

3. Award recipients will be recognized at the Women's Commission Celebrating Women Awards in March.
