Girls of Color Summit

The Girls of Color Summit is an initiative at GVSU that benefits girls of color, supporters and allies in the local community. Participants are invited to explore and discuss issues that impact the lived experiences of girls of color. Last year’s virtual summit, in March 2021 was a huge success. It highlighted the needs and experiences of girls of color while serving as a great space to connect with individuals from different parts of the local community. This powerful event that took months of planning, included five committee members, led by six facilitators, in which 22 middle and high school students attended. A total of 17 schools, from two states— joined together to promote equality, justice, and power. We have hosted:

-Center for Economicology

-Cross Roads Middle School

-East Kentwood High School

-Forest Hills Northern High School

-Gerald R. Ford Middle School

-Godwin Heights Middle School

-Grand Rapids Christian Middle School

-Grand River Preparatory High School

-Grandville High School

-Innovation Central High School

-Lowell Middle School

-Montessori Middle School

-Northern Hill Middle School

-River City Scholars Middle School

-South East Bulloch High School

-University Preparatory Academy

-Wyoming Junior High School

We are excited to continue our virtual summit, in person, on Saturday, November 20th, 2021. This event will be held on Grand Valley State University downtown campus! All are encouraged and welcome to participate. This summit will transform into something you don’t want to miss!
