CWGE Ambassadors

Students are a valued and important part of the Grand Valley State University Center for Women and Gender Equity. Therefore, the Ambassador program was created to build a connection to students who want to further the mission of the Center for Women and Gender Equity as well as their own leadership.

The Center for Women and Gender Equity Ambassador program offers students who are interested in exploring leadership through service, activism, and discussion. The Ambassador program is based on a Feminist Leadership for Social Change curriculum with the goal of empowering leaders through activism and community engagement!

Days of Service

Activate Days of Service provides opportunities to engage with the community and has three essential features: pre-engagement education and discussion, service learning experience, and post-engagement reflection.

Blackboard access to view opportunities is provided following online module completion. Space is limited based on the needs of host site partners. Those interested are encouraged to signup early! Experiences are typically scheduled for Friday or Saturday mornings, and students are required to use provided transportation. Examples of host site partnerships:

  • Grand Rapids Red Project
  • HQ
  • GVSU Sustainable Agriculture Project
  • Grand Rapids Pride Center
  • Kid’s Food Basket
  • Refugee Education Center
  • Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities

Agency placements may be available on a limited bases. Students interested in an agency placement must attend an additional one-on-one meeting (after completing the online training) with a center representative to discuss interests, qualifications, and potential opportunities.

Ambassadors make a year-long commitment to the program. Ambassadors meet for about 90 minutes every other week during the fall and winter semesters. Ambassadors are also asked to co-lead at least one CWGE event (Talkback Tuesday, Feminist Film Friday, etc.) per semester and have the opportunity to represent the Center for Women and Gender Equity at various campus events.
