-- Five schools officially joined GVSU's portfolio of charter schools this year! We're excited to welcome The Greenspire Academy and celebrate the brand new openings at Flint Cultural Center Academy, Westfield Charter Academy, Westfield Preparatory High School, and Lincoln King Academy: Adams-Young Campus.
-- Detroit Prep kicked off the new year in their gorgeous new building. To see the incredible transformation that has occurred over the past year, follow @detroitprep2016 on Facebook or Instagram. It'll impossible not to smile when you learn how much work was put into turning this building into a "forever home" for kids in the community!
-- Students from Grand River Academy sung and danced their hearts out along with the rest of the Detroit Youth Choir as they earned a spot in the finals of America's Got Talent. They continue to amaze the judges and crowds at home. They will also perform during at halftime when the Detroit Lions play the Los Angeles Chargers on September 15.
-- Eagle's Nest Academy is just days away from adding a brand new community playground! The project is done in partnership with GM and KaBOOM!. There will be approximately 200 volunteers at the school on September 20 to put the new playground together in just a few hours.
-- West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics recently partnered with an arts consultant from Chicago to further develop the school's arts-integrated curriculum.
-- Teachers from Detroit Enterprise Academy received a surprise back-to-school shopping spree courtesy of Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr.
-- Nearly 500 elementary students at University Preparatory Academy received backpacks during a surprise assembly. The backpacks were provided thanks to a partnership between the school, Farm Bureau Insurance, and the Detroit Pistons. Pistons player Thon Maker and mascot Hooper were at the school to help pass out the gifts!
