MDE June Updates
June 10, 2020
School Administrator Certification -- In accordance with Michigan Compiled Law (MCL) 388.1763, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has the responsibility to ensure appropriate certification is in place for school administrators. As this is a time of administrative hiring for superintendents, principals, and other administrators, MDE is sending this reminder of the school administrator certificate or permit requirement.
Reminder of Graduation Requirements Flexibility for Current Year Seniors -- As the school year nears completion, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has received many questions from stakeholders about ensuring that students receive the appropriate support to graduate during this unique time. While we recognize that many schools have already ended coursework for seniors, we also know that schools and districts will still work with students through the summer to help them obtain the appropriate credits to graduate. This memo reminds districts of some of the flexibility offered by Executive Order 2020-65.
Flushing Your School Plumbing System -- Due to the school closure, the drinking water system within your school building will not have been under typical daily use for an extended period until class resumes. Water stagnation may affect the quality of drinking water; therefore, flushing is an essential procedure for water quality management. Please see the flushing guidelines from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
Fall 2020 Virtual Continuous Improvement Conference -- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Educational Supports (OES) will sponsor the first virtual Fall Continuous Improvement Conference: Equity for Continuous Improvement: Opportunities, Environments, and Supports on Tuesday, October 20.
