CSO Member Joins Early Education Collaborative
April 26, 2018
One of the GVSU Charter Schools Office's key initiatives is to expand its work with community leaders to ensure better outcomes for young children, especially children who have not yet entered kindergarten. In furthering this initiative, we're proud to recognize Amirah Vosburgh, our manager for school and community partnerships in West Michigan, for recently joining the Great Start Collaborative (GSC) of Kent County
According to its website, Kent County's GSC is a community collective that works together to improve early childhood education in Grand Rapids and its surrounding communities. The group is in charge of making sure more and more children, from birth to 8-years-old, have access to high-quality programs that drive learning and development.
Amirah currently serves as the co-chair for the GSC's fourth Goal and first Strategy, which are "build infrastructure to support early childhood education" and "explore the development of a coordinated resource and referral system to assist families in navigation of services," respectively.
Accompanying Amirah in the GSC are representatives from nearly 20 other organizations, including the following groups:
- Early On
- Salvation Army
- Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi
- Great Start to Quality
- Heart of West Michigan United Way
- Kent ISD
- Kent County Health Department
- Family Futures
- First Steps Kent
- Head Start
We look forward to using Amirah's work with the GSC to find new ways to enhance support for all children around West Michigan.
