The Learning Network is a continuous school improvement series that unites building leaders from each GVSU-authorized charter school as they work together to solve common problems in education. The Learning Network has been a staple of the GVSU CSO's professional education offerings for the past eight years. It is led by Dr. Richard Lemons, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Center for School Change.
2019-2020 Learning Network
The 2019-2020 GVSU Learning Network will address the following four high-leverage improvement areas:
- Staff Culture
- Student Culture
- Data-driven Instruction in Math and Literacy
- Observation and Feedback
To tackle these focus areas, participants will study innovation that have fueled school improvement. Participants will work together to uncover what innovations have been most effective, what big problems still require innovation, and what ideas or technologies can be adopted from other fields to benefit students.
New This Year
To accomplish the goals related to the high-leverage improvement areas, the Learning Network will now include:
An ongoing professional learning community (PLC) will study leading practices related to each improvement area and use findings to support school improvement cycles and promote accountability
Video conference consultations with Richard Lemons to discuss school/team issues
Closer involvement of GVSU CSO School Support Team to advise schools or PLC groups during and between meetings
