GVSU Charter Student Performance Contest
The GVSU Charter Schools Office is excited to announce a new opportunity for students in GVSU-authorized charter schools who want to showcase their musical talent! We're looking for small groups students in grades 6-12 to perform at our spring Board Receptions. Whether these students are vocalists or musicians, we want to put them in the spotlight.
There will be two winners selected for this contest. One of the winning groups will be from our West Michigan schools and will perform at the Grand Rapids Board Reception on April 9, 2018. The other winner will be selected from Detroit-area schools and play at the Detroit Board Reception on April 11, 2018. Both winners will also receive a $500 prize!
Who Can Enter: The contest is open to all students in grades 6-12 who attend a GVSU-authorized charter school, specifically students who are part of a musical performance group.
How To Enter: Schools interested in participating must create a video or audio clip (1-2 minutes long) of the student group performing. Student groups must be made up of 4-8 students total. The clip should then be shared on the school's Facebook and/or Twitter account, tagging the GVSU Charter Schools Office and using the hashtag #charterperformance
Deadline for Entry: All submissions must be posted by March 9, 2018. The winners will be announced by March 16, 2018.
- All students who are part of a video submission must have a media release form on file with the school AND with the GVSU Charter Schools Office. You can download our Media Release Form here. Completed GVSU CSO forms can be scanned and emailed to Michael Cousins (firstname.lastname@example.org) or mailed directly to our office.
- Submissions can be of any type of musical performance group including, but not limited to, brass ensembles, string ensembles, jazz quartets, acapella groups, choirs, and school bands
- Schools may have multiple submissions
- The contest winners must provide their own instruments and transportation to the Board Receptions. Dinner will be provided to the winning groups at the Board Receptions.
Judging Process: Entries will be reviewed by a panel of qualified judges. Winners will be selected based on the overall abilities that are showcased in the submission.
