Detroit Board Leadership Program
Well-governed public charter schools add incredible value to the communities and students they serve. The Detroit Regional Chamber recognizes this and invites you to consider putting your leadership experience to work to make a difference in public education by applying to join a charter school board.
The Charter School Board Leadership Program provides training to business leaders looking to support public education in the Detroit region. Participants are then connected to charter school authorizers for potential board placement.
Participants in the program may choose from three orientation sessions for the Charter School Board Leadership Program in Spring 2020. The 2020 dates are Feb. 27, March 24, and May 7. Locations will be finalized closer to the dates.
Through orientation, participants will:
- Understand the difference between a board’s role to govern versus manage
- Understand the relationship between the governing board, the school operator and other entities
- Understand the board’s responsibility for academic and financial oversight, and to provide tools to support monitoring and evaluation
- Understand how board leadership can engage in the broader community
