Recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Engagement Initiative Award
Pathway Home is a partnership between Family Promise and Mel Trotter Ministries that provides case management and emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. At the request of both organizations and over four semesters, Social Work 679 students have designed, conducted, and disseminated multiple formative evaluations of Pathway Home, each of which contributes to an overarching evaluation strategy that gradually shifts evaluation responsibility from student-evaluators to Pathway Home staff. Ultimately, these high-quality, independent evaluations improve the Pathway Home program, assist in sound decision-making, and increase program and organizational accountability. Students conducting these evaluations understand homelessness as a social justice issue and are better prepared for the ethical obligations of non-profit management.
