Student Scholarships

Each year, GVSU Education Program students receive substantial financial support through scholarships reserved for students pursuing a career in the field of education.

  • During the 2020-2021 school year, 23 students received Education Program scholarships - a total of $43,950 
  • During the 2019-2020 school year, 30 students received Education Program scholarships - a total of $42,700

Scholarship Application Information

Candidates in both initial certification and graduate programs are eligible to apply. These scholarship opportunities are made possible by the generosity of individuals and organizations dedicated to the preparation of high-quality educators.

Please note that an essay is required for most Education Program scholarships. Each essay should describe how the particular scholarship will benefit you and should address the specific eligibility criteria for the scholarship.

Criteria for Applying

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and assist students with career goals in child abuse prevention and advocacy who have demonstrated a commitment to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children.

To qualify, students must:

  • be accepted for, or currently enrolled at GVSU
  • be an undergraduate student enrolled 12 credit hours or more
  • have a social work, psychology, nursing, or criminal justice major
  • be making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
  • Preference will be given to students with permanent residence in Ottawa or Allegan counties
