Groundswell Team Members to Present at North American Association of Environmental Educators Annual Conference

Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) staff will be representing the GVSU College of Education and Groundswell at the North American Association of Environmental Educators (NAAEE) Annual Conference in October 2016. Presentations by CEP staff will include: "Lessons and Resources for Stewardship Education," "Students as Change-makers: Leading Community Engagement for Water Quality Protection," and "Groundswell and PBS LearningMedia Partnership: Accessible Environmental Education Resources."

Record Number of K-12 Teachers Enrolled in 2016 Groundswell Summer Institute

This summer's Groundswell Summer Institute was a tremendous success due in large part to the many dedicated K-12 teachers in West Michigan who participated in the week-long professional development. This year's institute covered many topics related to place-based environmental education including non-point source pollution, teaching outdoors, green infrastructure, teaching engineering content, working with English Language Learners, culturally inclusive teaching, environmental justice, and community engagement.

Classroom Library Grant Opportunity

Michigan Literacy Project

  • Are you a Grand Valley COE graduate?
  • Have you been teaching 3 years or less in a non-chartered public school in Michigan?
  • Are you teaching in a general education elementary classroom (K-5)?
  • Are you teaching in an under-served district with limited resources?
  • Are you in need of quality children’s literature for your classroom?
  • Do you have a clear vision for how these books could be utilized to foster a love of literature in your own classroom?

If you answered, “YES” to all six questions, you are eligible to apply for a classroom library book grant provided by the Grand Valley State University College of Education Michigan Literacy Project.  

To apply, visit and complete the short application. All applications will be reviewed by a team of GVSU faculty/staff. Qualified candidates will be chosen based on specific need and use criteria.
